Special DNA repair complexes made of proteins and enzymes (including DNA polymerase 1 & DNA polymerase II) remove a small section of nucleotides around the error. This missing section is replaced by DNA polymerase III, and a missing phosphodiester bond of last nucleotide is joined by DNA ligase.
