Collect a thermometer, a beaker of water, a capillary tube (with an oil plug to create an air bubble) and a scale. Set up the experiment with the thermometer, scale, and capillary tube inside the beaker of water Heat the water to boiling, and as it heats record the temperature and length of the trapped air column with the scale. Remove from heat and allow apparatus to cool, as the air column cools obtain a set of corresponding values of temperature and length of the trapped air column
