level questions: Collision Theory

QuestionAnswer
What does the Rate of a Chemical Reaction depend on?-This is all Dependent on: -Collision Frequency of the Reacting Particles. If they have more Successful Collisions, then they will be Faster -Energy Transferred in the Collision has to be Enough so that it can React. -The above is called Collision Theory
How can the Temperature affect the Rate of Reaction?-This is because an Increase in the Temperature leads to a Faster Movement, because of more Kinetic Energy given to the Particles -Higher Temperatures also will Increase the Energy of the Collisions, so that means there will be a Greater Chance for the Collisions to React. -So Temperature increases the Number of Successful Collisions
How can the Concentration/Pressure affect the Rate of Reaction?-If the Solution is more Concentrated, that means there is more Particles of Reactants, in the Same Volume -This makes Collisions more Frequent, so more Reactions takes Place -Pressure, in a Gas, also has the Particles more Crowded, so therefore it will have more Collisions
How can the Size, or Surface Area, affect the Rate of Reaction?-If a Reactant is Solid, it being Broken down means more of the Solid will be Exposed compared to the Volume -Particles will then have more Area to work with, so Collison's can Increase
