What are magnetic domains?
The orbiting motion of electrons in a magnetic material is an atomic magnet. Atomic magnets pointing in the same direction is a magnetic domain

Acceleration due to gravity is the acceleration produced in a body due to the earth's gravitational attraction. its approximate value is 9.8ms^-1

1. chemical reaction that occurs in a primary cell is irreversible, but in a secondary cell it is not. 2. primary cells can't be recharged, but secondary cell can be. 3. primary cells are only capable of providing weak current, whereas secondary cells can give high as well as low current.
Explain work done in transferring charge through a conducting wire; potential difference.
If the charge between two electrons is 0, it means they are at infinite separation. if there is a fixed separation, there will also be a value to the charge. But if the separation is infinite, the charge will be 0. The amount of work required to bring the electron from infinity to that particular point required is called work. q is the charge. Potential difference is when electric current flows from higher electric potential, i.e, the terminal having a higher negative charge, to the terminal having a lower negative charge. now the potential between these two points can be expressed as V= W/q.
Define contact and non-contact forces, Give 2 examples of each.
Contact forces are forces that are applied to bodies through physical contact. e.g- friction, the tension on a string. non-contact forces are forces applies to bodies without physical contact. e.g- gravitational force, electrostatic force.
State and explain newton's first law with suitable examples.
A body in the state of rest will remain in the state of rest and a body in the state of motion will remain in the state of motion with the same velocity until an external force is applied to it. for example, a book resting on the table will remain at rest until it is moved. If a ball is moving, it will continue to move until air resistance and friction cause it to stop. Other examples:- a powerful locomotive that's pulling a long line of boxcars that were at rest require a great deal of force to move as they are very large and have higher inertia
Define the property inertia and mention and define the 3 types of inertia as well.
Inertia is the property of a body to remain in its state of rest or motion and resist change. Inertia depends on the mass of the body and is directly proportional to it, i.e, it increases or decreases with an increase or decrease in mass of the body. There are 3 types of inertia 1- the inertia of rest 2- the inertia of motion 3- the inertia of direction. 1: Inertia of rest states that a body at rest will continue to be at rest until an external force is applied to it. 2:iinertia of motion states that a body in motion will continue to be in motion until an external force is applied to it. 3: Inertia of direction states that a body moving in a particular direction will continue to move in that direction unless a force is applied to it to change its direction.
What is induced magnetism? give and explain an example.
Induced magnetism is temporary magnetism acquired by a magnetic material when a magnet is in its vicinity or in contact with it. For example- when an unmagnetized bar of magnetic material comes in contact or close to a magnet, it acquires induced magnetism.
What are 2 evidences of the existence of earths magnetic field?
1. A freely suspended magnet will always point in the geographic north-south direction. 2. an iron rod buried inside the earth a few meters in the north-south direction and taken out after a few days becomes a weak magnet, which is only possible if the earth acts like a magnet itself.
What is a neutral point?
Neutral point is where two magnetic fields meet that are equal in magnitude but opposite in direction and cancel each other out. A compass placed here will not point to any specific direction.
What are fundamental and derived quantities? state examples
Fundamental quantities are quantities that don't depend on another unit to express the quantity. For example- units of length mass and time. Derived quantities are quantities that depend on fundamental quantities to express their value. For example- units of area, volume, speed.
What are the requirements for a unit? state 3
1. It should be possible to define without ambiguity 2.- should be reproducible 3. its value should not change with space and time
What is the universal gravitational constant?
The gravitational constant is the value of force between two bodies of 1kg mass at a separation of 1m
What is the inverse square law for gravitation?
Newton showed that the gravitational attraction between two point bodies is proportional to the product of their masses and inversely proportional to the square of the distance between them. F= GMm/r^2
What are ammeters and galvanometers?
An ammeter is an instrument that is used to measure the magnitude of the current flowing in a circuit. its symbol is A enclosed in a circle. A galvanometer is used to detect presence of weak current ot direction of flow of current and the symbol is G enclosed in a cirlce.
